Inthanon Royal Project

The Inthanon Royal Project is one of the many projects sponsored or guided by the royal family. Its purpose is to improve the life of the local hill tribes, like the Karen. "The Project supports the hill tribes to grow the new alternative crops as substitute for opium, and to have permanent agricultural land instead of slash-and-burn farming as a trick to prevent destroying the forest. Besides these, [they] are also researching about crop development and plants of mild weather." (Source: bangkoksite.com)

This is a large area situated in the mountains. The vegatation is varied and well kept in places exposed to the elements.

Long rows of greenhouses provide shelter for the detailed study of plants.

In some of these greenhouses, plants are exhibited in a more museum-like setting.
